"The Scarlet Pocket" is my newest diorama that I've lately worked on. I wrapped it up the other day and decided to share it with you. I'm thinking that the red portal takes us to another "pocket" but this time around a much larger piece of land. I'll be working on that next.
⠀
This project was an exercise in stylized art. I love art like that but hadn't sat down to finish anything in this style. Not since my first job in the industry, years ago, where I worked on stylized projects.
⠀
My main inspirations are games like World of Warcraft and League of Legends. I wanted to borrow their art style while creating something of my own. I hope you like it.
⠀
All of the art seen here is hand created by me. No genAI was used at any part of the pipeline of their creations.
⠀
Special thanks to these artists who gave me feedback and encouragement a long the way:
Sophie Deschamps, Jacky Chim, Phil Cockburn and Mingyo Choi.

Also a reminder: I have made two devlogs on the making of this artwork, over on YouTube. Find it here:

All hand painted in Photoshop.
I made different colors by reusing my material shader and Niagara particles work.
The portal art is hosted in a custom blueprint that has an Enum that can switch the surface material and the Niagara VFX. I've created a few colors one can pick from.
You can actually go into the portal and it will teleport you to another portal location in the map. I documented the creation of this system in a step-by-step Blueprints and art tutorial over on my YT channel.
Timelapse of hand painting the sky texture. View is from UE5 but the painting was done in Photoshop.
I made two devlogs on how I approached creating the art.
I'm most likely going to make a few more so I can showcase the creation of the diorama from start to finish.
